What is the Ozil goal AI trend?

The Ozil goal AI trend is a TikTok format from October 2026 that remakes Mesut Özil’s winner for Arsenal at Ludogorets on 1 November 2016 with someone else as the scorer: a Minecraft villager, Super Mario, Shrek, a pet or the person posting. The moves stay the same: the ball lifted over the goalkeeper, two defenders sliding past, the finish into the empty net.

Where it came from

The goal is real. On 1 November 2016, in Group A of the Champions League at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia, Ludogorets led Arsenal 2–0 after 15 minutes through Jonathan Cafu (12th minute) and Claudiu Keșerü (15th). Granit Xhaka (20th) and Olivier Giroud (42nd) levelled before half-time. In the 87th minute, the substitute Mohamed Elneny played Özil through; Özil lifted the ball over the goalkeeper Milan Borjan, let two defenders slide past and slotted it into the empty net. The win took Arsenal into the last 16.

Ten years later it became a meme. The earliest AI version we found in TikTok search is a Minecraft villager scoring the goal, posted by @r7538701fal on 9 October 2026; it has about 539,000 likes. The same account posted Super Mario on 15 October (about 63,000 likes), and the Brazilian sports outlet ge (@getv) posted a round-up with a T. rex kicking a watermelon on 16 October.

How to make the Ozil goal AI video

  1. Pick a photo of who or what should score: a person, a pet, a horse, a banana, a cartoon. A full-body photo works best.
  2. Use an AI video tool that follows the goal’s moves, or the CapCut template from the TikTok tutorials.
  3. Post it on TikTok or Reels with the trend’s sound. TikTok labels many of these videos “Contains AI-generated media”.

With Ozil AI Goal: upload one photo, pay $5.99, and about 5 to 6 minutes later you get the 15-second goal with you, your pet or anything else as the scorer on a pitch drawn at random.

Real footage or AI: how to tell

The original is 2016 TV footage from Sofia, with a full crowd, sponsor boards and real Arsenal and Ludogorets players. In the AI versions the scorer changes (a villager, a dinosaur, a pet), names and numbers on shirts are missing or garbled, and the pitch is often somewhere else. TikTok labels many of them “Contains AI-generated media”.

Questions

Who scored the original Ozil goal?

Mesut Özil, for Arsenal, in a 3–2 win at Ludogorets in the Champions League on 1 November 2016. It was the winner, three minutes from time.

Who started the Ozil goal AI trend?

Nobody is credited. The earliest AI version we found in TikTok search is a Minecraft villager posted by @r7538701fal on 9 October 2026.

Is the Ozil goal AI video a face swap?

It depends on the tool. Some paste a face onto the match footage. Ozil AI Goal makes the whole video again from your photo, so your body, your clothes and the pitch are new and no frame of the 2016 footage appears in it.

Can I make it with my pet, or with a banana?

Yes. Upload one photo of your dog or cat, or of anything else (a horse, a banana, a toy, a cartoon), on Ozil AI Goal; it runs upright and scores the same goal against players of its kind (other fruit, other animals).
